Project Overview:

This educational webinar series, CHW N’ Action, was developed in collaboration with a local health department, an educational center focused on workforce development, and a community-based organization addressing health inequities. It explores the essential roles of CHWs in advancing health equity, addressing social determinants of health, and improving population health outcomes. Each session features expert presentations and panel discussions that highlight the impactful work of CHWs in their communities.

Purpose:

This webinar series was designed to:

– Educate Stakeholders: Raise awareness about the vital roles CHWs play in health promotion and community engagement.

– Advance Health Equity: Promote understanding of how CHWs help address health and racial inequities through innovative community-based strategies.

– Address Social Determinants of Health: Highlight the impact of CHWs in addressing upstream health factors and improving overall population health.

– Foster Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships between CHWs, public health organizations, and community leaders to promote sustainable health improvements.

Key Features:

– Foundational CHW Knowledge: Introduction to the definition, roles, and competencies of CHWs, emphasizing their importance in health teams.

– Health and Racial Equity Focus: Exploration of the role CHWs play in advancing health and racial equity, particularly in marginalized communities.

– Social Determinants of Health (SDoH): Discussion of how CHWs address SDoH to improve community health outcomes.

– Panel Discussions: Featuring CHWs and/or Promotores sharing their firsthand experiences and insights on community impact.

– Expert Presentations: Presentations by leading professionals in public health, health equity, and workforce development.

Process:

Contributed to the development of this webinar series by collaborating with stakeholders, curating content, and facilitating discussions. I was featured as a subject matter expert in the final webinar, where I shared insights on how CHWs are essential in addressing health disparities and advancing community health.

Impact:

This webinar series has educated and engaged a wide audience of public health professionals, community members, and policymakers, fostering a deeper understanding of the CHW profession and its critical role in public health. It has promoted dialogue on advancing health equity and addressing social determinants of health while highlighting the work of CHWs in Mecklenburg County and beyond.
